Windows installation help
Our Windows installer is not code-signed with an EV certificate. Windows or your browser may block it. Pick the scenario that matches what you see, then follow the steps.
Smart App Control
Windows 11 may block unsigned apps with Smart App Control (SAC). You may need to turn it off before installing.
- 1Open Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security.
- 2Click Open Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings.
- 3Select Off, confirm the warning, then restart your PC when prompted.
- 4After restart, run the downloaded installer again.
- 5Note: turning SAC off may require reinstalling Windows to turn it back on. Only disable if you trust this installer.
SmartScreen warning
When running the installer, Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" or "unrecognized app".
- 1Double-click the downloaded .exe installer.
- 2On the blue SmartScreen dialog, click More info (not Run).
- 3Click Run anyway to continue installation.
- 4If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow changes.
Browser blocked download
Edge or Chrome may remove or warn about unsigned .exe downloads before you can run them.
- 1Open the browser downloads page: Edge/Chrome press Ctrl+J (Cmd+Shift+J on Mac).
- 2Edge: click ⋯ next to the file → Keep. If blocked again, Show more → Keep anyway.
- 3Chrome: click Keep or Restore, then Keep dangerous file if warned.
- 4Open the saved file from your Downloads folder and continue with the SmartScreen tab if needed.
Unblock file
Files downloaded from the internet may be marked as blocked (Mark of the Web) and fail to run silently.
- 1In File Explorer, right-click the installer → Properties.
- 2On the General tab, check Unblock at the bottom if shown → Apply → OK.
- 3Double-click the installer again. Right-click → Run as administrator if it still won't start.
- 4If Windows still blocks it, switch to the SmartScreen or Smart App Control tab above.
WebView2
Tauri apps on Windows require the WebView2 runtime. If the app won't start after install, you likely need this component first.
Get WebView2- 1Open the official Microsoft WebView2 download page (link below).
- 2Under "Evergreen Bootstrapper" or "Evergreen Standalone Installer", download the x64 version.
- 3Run the installer and wait until setup completes (usually under a minute).
- 4Return to this page and download the Windows app installer.
